natural products libraryThrough its network of international contacts, SIDR has built up an extremely diverse library of natural product extracts, largely from higher plants. Access to SIDR's natural product library is available under licence to industry. Agreed quantities of extracts are provided with exclusivity for an agreed period. Taxonomic identification and resupply are guaranteed. The natural product library represents a collection of about 1,000,000 highly diverse chemicals. SIDR can screen this collection against bioassays suggested by client companies in order to isolate and identify candidate lead molecules. SIDR can supply unmatched chemical diversity for screening by customers, provide lead molecules under contract using customised screens, and offer for out-licensing novel leads from in-house discovery for unmet therapeutic needs. SIDR has expertise in most types of assay systems, particularly in cell-based functional assays. SIDR's natural product networkSIDR's Natural Product Network spans 20 countries in each major continent: Africa, Europe, America, Asia and Australia. All suppliers are scientists (botanists, phytochemists, taxonomists) from research institutions most of whom have collaborated with, and all of whom are known personally to SIDR scientists. Access to this worldwide network can be obtained through a single negotiation. the Strathclyde agreementSIDR, under the auspices of the University of Strathclyde, has set up bilateral arrangements with its network of international contacts for the supply of extracts. The Agreement forms the basis of these arrangements and ensures that SIDR's partners in the less developed countries receive a fair reward for the supply of material. The Agreement has been recognised as equitable internationally. The essence of the Agreement is the exploitation of natural products as guided by the terms of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. Particular emphasis has been placed on ethical practice with the preservation of biodiversity through the use of biologically sustainable methods of collection. natural product supply through SIDR"Guaranteed, reliable and efficient supply of natural products which is tailored to the customer's individual needs." Extracts are licensed out with exclusive access for an agreed period. Supply of the extracts is to the customer's specifications. Any 'hits' are developed, where realistically possible, jointly by SIDR and the industrial partner. Key points: - worldwide access in a single negotiation
- exclusivity for an agreed term
- supply in customer's desired format
- option for resupply
- supply of large quantities possible
- chemical and biological follow-up available
In-house screening of SIDR's natural product library has revealed activity in the following areas: - anti-inflammatory compounds
- cytostatic and cytotoxic materials
- hypoglycaemics
- plant growth regulators
